“So You Think You Can Dance”

Please mark your calendars for our annual 2012 dance recital on Saturday, May 26, 2012 with show times of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM and a solo, duet, trio showcase at 4:00 PM. This years theme will be based on the popular television show “So You Think You Can Dance.” All dancers will perform in both shows. More detailed information with tickets sales and rehearsal dates will be coming in January.
Dance is a performing art and a big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. The experience of performing helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Please let us know if you are unable to participate in the recital by December 1st.

2012 Ballet Production “The Lion King”
The majority of ballet classes will participate in the 2012 ballet production of the “The Lion King.”
Father/Daughter Dance.
The Father/Daughter dance is a wonderful opportunity for Dad’s to spend quality time with their daughters. Together they will learn a dance that they will perform during the May recital. Dancers must be 3 years of age by January 1, 2012 in order to participate. To register for this dance, Dads (stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, and/or other significant men in the dancer’s lives) will register beginning November 1, 2011 through January 15, 2012. The cost to participate will be $40.00 for lessons and additional cost for costumes. Rehearsals will be scheduled for one weekend a month January - May.
2011 Nationals
The Arts Center attended Nexstar’s National Championships July 4-9, 2011 at Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio with forty-three other dance studios from Canada, Kansas, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan for the chance to win a national title.
Out of the seven-hundred and ninety two entries at the dance competition, The Arts Center went home with three national championships for the senior’s group number “Around The Clock”, the juniors group number Dive in the Pool” and duet with McCormick Lucke and Sierra Laman “Mad”. The Arts Center was also awarded seven overall awards, two special judges awards, seven platinum awards, four high gold awards, one gold award, and two invitations to the big show!
Throughout the week of Championships, high scoring group routines were invited to perform and re-compete on the final day of competition at "The Big Show". The Junior Company took 3rd place in their division and the Senior Company took 1st place and the grand champion in their division at “The Big Show.”
Attending performance dance company members included Danette Becerra, Emily Bryan, Maria Bryan, Ashley Buersmyer, Catherine Burger, Claire Burger, Shaylen Compton, Hope Gast, Alanis Ladicks, Sierra Laman, Jillian Lucke, McCormick Lucke, Caitlyn O’Connor, Brandi Spahr, and Kylie Spieles.
Results: Senior Company Lyrical “Around The Clock” Platinum Award, 1st Place Overall National Champions and invitation to The Big Show and 1st Place Grand Champion in The Big Show. Junior Company Jazz “Dive In The Pool” Platinum Award, 1st Place Overall National Champions and invitation to The Big Show and 3rd Place Overall in The Big Show. Jazz Duet “Mad” Sierra Laman & McCormick Lucke Platinum Award,1st Place Overall National Champions. Lyrical Duet “Nicest Thing” Ashley Buersmeyer & McCormick Lucke Platinum Award and 2nd Place Overall and special Judges Award “Paired Perfectly”. McCormick Lucke’s lyrical solo “Sweet Love” Platinum Award, 2nd Place Overall and special Judges Award “Commanding Performance”. Ashley Buersmeyer’s solo “Fragile” Platinum Award and 3rd Place Overall. Senior Company Jazz “Cooler Couler” Platinum Award and 5th Place Overall. Sierra Laman’s jazz solo “Took the Night” High Gold Award and 5th Place Overall. Senior and Teen Tap “Funky Cold Medina” High Gold Award and Premier Award. Junior Company Tap “Working Day and Night” High Gold Award and 5th Place Overall. Alanis Ladicks’ jazz solo “Big Noise” High Gold Award. Caitlyn O’Connor’s lyrical solo “Miss Invisible” Gold Award.

Albert Blaise Cattafi has been dancing since the age of 5, thanks to his sister Eléna, and since that time has established himself as a fine young artist. His training includes the renowned faculties of both The Joffrey Ballet School in New York and Kelly Allen's For Dancer's Only in New Jersey. Albert was a featured soloist in Jeff Amsden's "A Few Good Men... Dancin' ", has appeared in an international Coke Zero Commercial, and is a member of Rasta Thomas' Bad Boys of Dance. As a soloist, his dancing has graced such famous stages as The New Amsterdam Theater in NYC, Sadlers Wells Theater in London, and The Lucent Danse Theatre in Holland. To great acclaim he has worked with Tony Award winning directors Des McAnuff (The Wiz) and Jerry Mitchell (Peepshow), and has assisted some of the countries top choreographers such as Sergio Trujillo (Tony Award winner), Ray Leeper, and Mia Michaels (Emmy Award winner). Albert Blaise was the assistant choreographer on Franco Dragone's cirque extravaganza "INDIA", and has also assisted on the production of major Broadway shows including “Spiderman”, “Tarzan” (Holland), “Billy Elliot”, and will soon be working on the re-make of Flash Dance. He has performed on the Video Music Awards for Florence and the Machine, the American Music Awards for Kelly Clarkson, was a guest artist in the Miss Kentucky pageant, and has performed as a guest on "So You Think You Can Dance" with the Bad Boys of Dance. Most recently Albert Blaise Cattafi is proud to be a member of the newly developed dance company “Shaping Sound”, under the direction of choreographers Travis Wall, Teddy Forance, and Nick Lazarini.
Albert believes you should always strive for perfection and never stop smiling! ROCK ON!!
Movie Night
Parents do you need a night out to celebrate Valentines Day? For $10.00 you can drop off your dancer and they will enjoy popcorn and a movie. The Performance Company will host this event to help raise funds for their national competition this summer. Tickets will be sold in the office for $10.00 on a first come first serve basis. Suggested age is for 5 & up. Parents please notify us of any allergies.

4 weeks and counting…Are you ready?
Performance Dance Company members have been given a competition packet with information on make-up, tights, hair, general competition guidelines, and extra rehearsal. To help ease the stress of competition season, make sure you read through all of the material and contact the office if you have any questions. Our goal is to have a happy and successful competition season!
Souvenir Recital Program Book
This year we trying something new, a recital program/souvenir book. We are going to sell ads and incorporate more pictures of our dancers in the recital program. This will replace the yearbook we have had in the past. We will have samples of programs in the lobby along with forms to sell ads.
Weather Cancellations
In case of severe weather, please call The Arts Center office or visit the web site for cancellations. There will be a message indicating any changes in our schedule. Cancellations or changes in the schedule will be posted two hours before class time. Classes cancelled due to weather will be subject to available make-up times. No refunds on weather cancellations.
